page roughs

The next part of the sam project was to design a double page from the book containing one sentence. The sentence i was given was "ate the lot". I immediately thought of cake and birthday cake. I thought it would be more fun to draw.
I was thinking of fun and interesting ways to work in the text to my illustration.

Sam the dinosaur. I think. I can't decide if I like him.

The latest brief is a children's book.
The first part was to design the main character.
The only constraints being it must be called Sam, it must be wearing red converse boots and it must be wearing a particular striped tshirt.
Let the doodling commence...

How to... Be Conceited (mark 2)

After a conversation with a tutor about the moustache being hard to read I changed it to a clearer, graphical image.

Small Victories with article.

Small Victories

Final editorial illustration to go with an article about small victories and how many small victories equal one larger victory. I did two versions. I think I prefer the version with graph paper. The plain blue background over powers the image a bit.

How to... Be Conceited

Final drawing for editoral with article on How to be conceited.

How to... Undo Things.

Spam Rough

Illustration to advertise Spam. Futuristic theme. Had to include a spaceman/woman, an alien and a robot. And include the slogan "Go forward with Spam. The taste of the future."
Rough sketch. Final to come later.

Space Party...

The second part of the summer brief was to take all your seven characters and put them together in one piece. They had to be having a party somewhere. The time, place, and all the details were left to us. I thought what cooler place to have a party then IN SPACE!!

I'm not entirely happy with my final piece. I think most of the elements work as separates I'm not sure I've found the best way to fit them together. The composition isn't quite right. They seem quite disconnected. I would like more interaction between my characters......... There may be another version of this at some point...

Hipster in space...

Where better to have a party than IN SPACE?!?!

Business man...

I also like Giraffes...

Giraffes are just fun to draw. I don't know why... they just are.

A really messed up scan of a character inspired by Sara Fanelli. Considering I hate the original this is a definite improvement.

I like drawing dinosaurs...

Character design...
I always end up drawing really boy-ish things, like dinosaurs and pirates.

Grumpy bear...

LP the bear.

inspired by the work of Kev Grey.

An obsession

They tell you when you first start roller derby that it going to take over your life and it becomes an obsession. well... they were right. I now seem to draw roller girls, skates, and anything derby related all the time. When asked to create characters for a uni project one of them HAD to be a roller girl.
